Our directors

Guy Harwood - Owner

Harwoods was established by Wally Harwood, father of Guy Harwood and was based at London Road Pulborough.

1965-1996, Guy began riding out for Ryan Price at Findon at the age of 18, Guy would go on to win 40 point to point winners and 14 National Hunt Races. Over the next few years he started working as a pupil assistant trainer to Bryan Marshall when he was 21 and five years later in 1965 he commenced training under permit.

Owned Petworth, Pulborough and Storrington Harwoods Garages during that time and went on to buy Coombelands Farm, where he developed Coombelands Racing Stables.

Guy joins the garage business full time during 1992. The size and profile of the Group is increased as is the investment and management structure.

William Fall - Chairman

William has joined Harwoods as the company chairman, to help steer our business towards our vision and a bright future. With a wealth of experience in the finance sector, William is currently Chairman of Ambac (UK) Ltd and of Allied Irish Bank UK plc. William is also Chair of the Board Risk Committee and NED on the Board of Citibank Global Markets Ltd, and a member of both the Audi and Remuneration Committees.

Jon Wakefield - CEO

Jon has a real depth of industry expertise. Prior to joining Harwoods he was VP of Core European Markets for Volvo in the EMEA region. Jon has significant previous experience as a managing director and sales director within the retail sector as well as a career with manufacturers, lending great support to a highly changing and competitive manufacturer landscape of change in the next years.

Archie Harwood - Director

Archie grew up with the business and was officially appointed to the board of management in 2012 as Business Development Director before becoming CEO in 2018.

As the original and passionate advocate of our transformation journey whilst he was CEO, Archie stepped into the role of Director in 2023 to work across the organisation supporting the CEO and leadership team with the intensification of focus on the delivery of measurable business benefits.

In his spare time, Archie spends time with family and friends socialising, playing tennis and on ski's.

Guy Rowson - Finance Director

Guy joined Harwoods in 2019 as Finance Director.

Guy has over 25 years’ experience in the Motor Trade having worked for two premium Manufacturers, and two of the top 10 retailers in the UK. He was also a co-owner of a successful Motor dealer group before the successful sale in 2014. Guy is a very experienced Finance Director and has held other senior roles including Group Operations Director and Franchise Director.

In Guy’s spare time he likes to spend time as much time as he can with his wife, two daughters and three dogs. He is also a keen cyclist and has many long-distance accolades, such as riding from London to Paris. Guy has also completed several triathlons including the gruelling ‘Ironman’ and the challenging but iconic ‘Escape from Alcatraz’.

Scott Paddock - Commercial Director

Having started in the Motor industry in 1992 as a valeter and then sales executive, Scott joined Harwoods following the 2004 acquisition of Testwood Motor Group Ltd, taking on the role of Group Fleet Sales Manager. Scott was promoted to the main Harwoods board in April 2009 to take the position of Audi Brand Director for the Harwoods Audi market area. He also oversees the Volkswagen Trade Parts Specialist (TPS) division, the Audi corporate sales department, and the Harwoods MAN truck centre. In April 2017 Scott took on the role of Operations Director for Harwoods, responsible for 17 franchised outlets representing Audi, Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), McLaren and Volvo. In 2024, Scott took on the role of Commercial Director.

Clare Freemantle - Sales & Marketing Director

Starting in the motor industry in 2004 as a Fleet Sales Administrator, Clare quickly moved into a Sales Executive role and then a Business Manager role. Having done two F&I Development Manager Roles for a large PLC Group, she then became a Head of Business at Land Rover Portsmouth. Clare then went back to the role of Business Development Manager for Honda UK focused on Network profitability. During her time with Honda, Clare had two sons and completed a diploma in Counselling Skills.

Clare’s passion is people and making a difference. She is a firm believer in growth through stepping outside of your comfort zone. If people can be the best that they can be, it is good for them and our customers.

Clare joined Harwoods in January 2022 as Finance and Insurance Services Director. She is excited to work with the Sales Departments across all the sites and ensure they achieve record profits alongside great customer experiences.

With two young children Clare doesn’t have much spare time, but when she does it is spent watching films or walking her Rhodesian Ridgebacks on the Salisbury plain.

Jonathan Watson - Aftersales Director

John joined Harwoods in February 2022. Having had 25 years of Aftersales management experience at various levels from Service Manager to Divisional Director, his role as Aftersales Director draws on his experience and that of the team around him, to deliver the customer and colleague experience befitting of Harwoods and the brands we represent.

John prides himself on an ability to bring large teams together toward common goals ensuring a constant learning and improvement culture pervades.

Nick Jones - Audi & Volvo Brand Director

Nick has worked in the motor trade since 1997, and joined Harwoods in 2012 as Head of Business at Five Oaks Audi, before moving to Portsmouth Audi in 2013. Outside of work Nick fills his spare time socialising with friends and family, with the occasional game of golf.

Amanda Perrett - Racehorse Trainer/Harwoods Director

Amanda was brought up at Coombelands Racing Stables in Pulborough, where her father Guy Harwood trained over 1600 winners, 30 of which were at Group 1 Level including Champion racehorse Dancing Brave. Amanda rode successfully as an amateur jockey winning 90 races, and became the first lady to ride in the Champion Hurdle at the 1990 Cheltenham Festival. She also rode as an event rider, winning the three-day event at Punchestown in Ireland and represented England in Italy later that year. In 1996, Amanda took over the racehorse training licence at Coombelands Stables from her father Guy, and have since trained over 680 winners. Coombelands Racing Stables is a family run business, with her husband Mark and children Ryan and Emma taking an active part. Amanda takes much pride in providing a good service to our loyal owners and staff.
